Class Trailer review- Pusher Trilogy

Pusher trilogy (1997-2005)

Drugs/horror/crime

What happened in the trailer? A quick paced montage of drug usage, murder, torture scenes, and lots of action with text on blank screens of critic’s remarks from all the pusher movies.

Which positive, clever or interesting aspects do you think you could include in your own trailer? What generic features were fulfilled well? The trailer is very effective at selling the trilogy, although not quite horror movies the explicit body horror and violence help class these films as horrors. The outtakes from all three movies help provide a general sense of the story and themes of the films but do not give anything about the plot away. There are no spoilers and it’s very hard to know what’s happening, just that it is exciting. The sound track is a like a heart beating, quickening with the pace of the montage which makes the trilogy seem epic and quite classy. The very fast paced action packed montage strongly contrasts with the quotes on the blank screen. The quotes, from large film magazine companies etc., help sell the film very well, as everyone listens to critics as big as those from empire etc. The sheer amount of action we see brief takes from, sell the trilogy as huge action filled films. With scenes of gore, violence drugs and sex, it gives a taste of what the films are strongly about.

Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful and would put of its target audience? How is it disappointing? Although the trailer doesn’t ruin any of the plot or give away spoilers it doesn’t give enough idea of what the films are about, nor does it give any information on the characters, we don’t know who to root for or who to cheer when get tortured and slain. Also with the whole montage being so fast it could have followed conventional horror trailers and built up the speed form the start, thus being able to include longer outtakes to tell us something about the characters and plot.

What was the trailers average score in class? Why did it receive this mark? Overall we gave it an average score of 8. The trailer was very effective at selling the films, although not truly horror films, they still look very appealing to horror fans, due to the suspense created by the trailer and the sheer amount of action.
