Thriller horror
What happened in the trailer? Text on the screen gives the idea of the film, a videotape that leads to your death if you watch it. After this the main protagonist dialogue from the film explains the story and a montage of scary looking scenes with old videotape-like shots of different settings and some creepy looking children.
Which positive, clever or interesting aspects do you think you could include in your own trailer? What generic features were fulfilled well? The creepiest aspect of the film, I found, was the use of a child antagonist. This plays against the general context of children as innocent and pure characters and turns them evil. The film seems to use many different creepy locations and in my film I would like to have at least one very well thought out creepy location. The trailer uses text on the screen and dialogue from the film to explain the story of the film and I think this works much better than a voice over which seems to add comedy to horror films. There are no real plot spoilers in the trailer so, although it hooks the audience with a promise of a scary original film, it doesn’t give anything away.
Which aspects of the trailer did you think were unsuccessful and would put of its target audience? How is it disappointing? The film had no real horror, just scary looking characters and settings. The trailer had no real body horror in it and although I think body horror is used too much in some films, in this film it isn’t used enough. The film also lacked creepy locations and in my trailer I will include a very creepy location.
What did you score the trailer? Why did it receive this mark? 6. I gave this trailer a 6 out of 10 as the trailer was creepy but not really that scary. The trailer didn’t really use a conventional trailer time line with a quickening pace. It all seemed very slow and without the much needed body horror the trailer looks as though it would be suitable for all ages. This really let me down as a horror fan.
